Opened in 1878, its design is a captivating blend of Romanesque and Scottish baronial styles, creating a truly grand and imposing landmark in the heart of Leeds.

Inside, audiences are greeted by an opulent auditorium, featuring ornate plasterwork, gilded details, and plush red velvet seating, all contributing to an unforgettable theatrical experience. With a seating capacity of approximately 1,500, the theatre provides an intimate yet grand setting for a wide array of productions.

Affectionately known as the "Grand Old Lady of Leeds," the theatre is a premier venue for touring productions, hosting everything from large-scale West End musicals and prestigious national theatre dramas to captivating opera and ballet performances. It is the proud home of two resident companies: the nationally acclaimed Opera North and Northern Ballet.
