The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

The only steam railway in the UK where passengers can still travel in Victorian railway carriages designed in the 1890s.

A one mile return trip from Woody Bay Station to Killington Lane and back. Two miles in total taking approximately 20 minutes. 

Steam trains through rolling countryside, with views out to stunning wild moorland and the rugged beauty of the coastline. Originally opened in 1898, and closed in 1935; what you can see today at Woody Bay is just the beginning of an exciting project to rebuild one of the world’s most famous and picturesque narrow-gauge railways; the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.

Parking and Coaches
We have a reasonably large FREE car park at Woody Bay Station! We can also accommodate coaches on most days

Station Tea Rooms

Our new Tea Room and picnic gardens are now fully open and offer a good selection of home-made cakes, fresh sandwiches and locally made hot pasties and sausage rolls. Enjoy a Devon cream tea with local clotted cream, delightful strawberry jam and special home-baked scones. Open every day during the operating season from 10am-4pm.

Accessibility

Wheelchair users and helpers are very welcome on our trains and our Guards are always on hand and trained to provide assistance.
